Enhance Security Across Multiple Systems
learningBOX, Inc. will implement SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) for its e-learning system, learningBOX, on March 12, 2025. This function enables provisioning of account information with external services, helping to improve efficiency and security of account management for multiple cloud services.
Background
In recent years, cloud services have been introduced and an increasing number of companies are using multiple in-house systems and cloud services together in their operations. As the introduction of systems and services expands, the complexity of account management has become a problem, and ID management, security enhancement, and access control efficiency have been urgent to be solved.
To enhance the security of cloud services, it is essential to build an authentication infrastructure. However, when building such infrastructure, in addition to designing authentication methods and policies, it is necessary to consider how to synchronize IDs with the cloud services to be linked. In particular, when implementing ID management products, a high hurdle exists in the implementation of ID synchronization because the design must take the entire internal system into consideration. Now that the use of multiple cloud services has become common, what is required is ID management technology, and one such technology is SCIM.
Overview
SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) is a standard for automating the provisioning of account information.
SCIM on learningBOX will enable automatic synchronization of account information with external services such as Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Azure Active Directory). This will greatly reduce the burden of account management and enable more efficient operations.
How does SCIM Work?
The benefits of SCIM are as follows:
1. Streamline Account Management
Automating operations such as adding and deactivating user accounts reduces the workload on those who are in charge of information system. Account management associated with employee entry, departure, and transfers can be efficiently carried out.
2. Reduce Security Risk
SCIM provisioning prevents unauthorized access and human errors, greatly reducing the risk of information leaks.
3. Centralize Account Management
By provisioning account information in learningBOX with identity providers (IdPs) such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta, account management across multiple services can be centralized. This reduces the workload of managing the growing number of accounts in companies that are increasingly adopting SaaS tools.
Future Goals
We will continue to expand our functionality and improve our services to support our customers in improving their operational efficiency and security, and through SCIM provision, we will further accelerate the promotion of digital tranformation in the enterprise and provide a more secure and efficient learning management environment.
