〜The goal is to contribute to the continuation of learning in such the COVID-19 pandemic and to improve the passing rate of the TVET graduation exam.

LearningBOX, Inc. has successfully completed a contract with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the "Basic Study on the Introduction of E-learning to Support Self-Study for Technical Education Graduation Certificate" (contract period: October 22, 2021 - September 15, 2022) in Pakistan. (JICA) for the "Basic Study on the Introduction of E-learning to Support Self-Study for Technical Education Graduates" (contract period: October 22, 2021 to September 15, 2022) in Pakistan.

Basic research on the introduction of learningBOX

Purpose and scope of the survey

We have been conducting a basic survey on the introduction of e-learning for self-study in TVET (vocational and technical education) institutions. learningBOX can be used as a self-study tool to prepare for graduation exams in TVET institutions, with the aim of improving the pass rate and contributing to the acquisition of qualifications such as "Diploma" and "Certificate". We also aim to improve the acquisition rate of "Diploma", "Certificate", and other certifications. In addition, under the current circumstances of the spread of new coronavirus infection, the program aims to guarantee the continuation of remote learning and, in turn, contribute to the development of industrial human resources by increasing the number of TVET graduates and producing graduates.

After trials in pilot schools, utilization in the field will begin.

Followed by the learningBOX online demonstration, we held a series of workshops to demonstrate how to create teaching materials with learningBOX to teachers from the three TVET schools in order to verify the ability to utilize the system from December 2021 to January 2022.

A total of 18 teachers (male: 9, female: 9) from "English" and "Mathematics" from general subjects and "AutoCAD" from specialized subjects participated in this workshop. In addition to how to create questions, upload content, and other operations to create their own teaching materials, the instructors also taught how to add and manage members, and how to check the progress of learning and the results of automatically graded exams. In the assignments assigned as a result of the workshop, theMost of the teachers were able to achieve this, and some of them were fully proficient in using the learningBOX within a few weeks, far exceeding our expectations.

A needs assessment conducted in the field revealed that 971 TP2T of the students in the pilot schools participating in the survey use smartphones and 411 TP2T use PCs at home, and more than half of these students use the Internet to study at home. Along with 84% of the students, their parents also expressed interest in e-learning, although they are concerned about the increased screening time and cost of education for their children. On the other hand, when parents were asked what they thought was a reasonable monthly fee for e-learning, the average response was PKR 75.7, while our service fee was less than PKR 44 (shared server, starter plan). While there were some concerns in terms of infrastructure and equipment, the results were positive in terms of the ability to utilize the proposed products.

Under the management of P-TEVTA, public pilot schools will begin in September to distribute actual teacher-created self-study content to students in the three subjects listed above.

Future development

Although they have mastered the basic usage of the learningBOX, we anticipate that teachers will be increasingly concerned about which materials and question formats they should use to achieve effective learning, and they will need operational insight and support.

Contributing to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Future Developments in the survey

We will continue discussions with government agencies, relevant organizations, and other stakeholders regarding the possibility of collaboration.
● We will provide support for product use and operation to start distribution of teaching materials from the new semester in the pilot schools of TVET institutions in Punjab.
We will continue to discuss the feasibility of introducing and operating e-learning at TVET institutions and the possibility of resolving issues using learningBOX.
