Contributing to the reduction of educational disparities in Asia and industrial development; aiming to become a model for regional companies based in Hyogo
learningBOX Co., Ltd. has been selected for the Reiwa 8 fiscal year “Local Startup Category” of the “Project to Support the Overseas Expansion of Digital Infrastructure That Ensures Safety and Reliability,” promoted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, for the second consecutive year following last fiscal year. This fiscal year, we are one of nine companies selected following a rigorous screening process from a total of 73 applications, and we are the only company to have been selected for two consecutive years.
Building on our track record in the Philippines, this fiscal year we are expanding our vision to “ASEAN-wide deployment” and extending our target regions to Malaysia and Indonesia. While contributing to the resolution of local social issues through high-quality education and human resource development, we will also participate in “EDUTech Asia,” Asia’s largest EdTech trade show, to help build learning environments tailored to local needs, create jobs, and contribute to the revitalization of both the Japanese and regional economies.
Background of the Selection
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has stated that securing international competitiveness in the fields of digital infrastructure and digital solutions—which serve as the foundation for all economic and social activities—is crucial for Japan’s sustainable economic growth and economic security.
In this context, promoting the overseas expansion of the outstanding digital solutions developed by regional Japanese companies is considered a meaningful initiative. Not only does it help solve social issues in the target countries and regions and contribute to the creation of a safe and reliable digital space, but it also leads to the revitalization of the regional companies themselves—as the business operators—and the local economies they serve. With these objectives in mind, the FY2026 “Regional Quota” program aims to support initiatives by regional companies related to “identifying, proposing, and developing” digital solutions for overseas expansion, with the ultimate goal of securing project contracts.
Last fiscal year, our company steadily advanced project development in the Philippine market under this program, and in recognition of our strong results and track record, we have been selected to continue participating in the program this fiscal year as well.
This fiscal year, as part of our “ASEAN Expansion” phase—which leverages the insights we have gained to date—we will begin full-scale efforts to enter the Malaysian and Indonesian markets. We will also widely promote the advantages of Japanese-developed solutions by exhibiting at “EDUTech Asia,” one of Asia’s largest edtech trade shows.
We will continue to deepen our relationships with government agencies and local partners around the world, contribute to solving global challenges in education and human resource development, and demonstrate the potential of regionally-based digital solutions that take flight from Hyogo to the world, striving even harder to further revitalize the local economy.
