Launched as an industry-government-academia collaborative project to discover and nurture outstanding AI/ICT human resources for the next generation in Japan. The AI Koshien is an AI competition for "geek" high school students from all over Japan who belong to computer clubs such as PC clubs, robot contest clubs, information processing clubs, and e-sports clubs.
This is a competition to discover and train high school students to become "AI Athletes*" who have honed their comprehensive AI/ICT skills as qualities and abilities to create the future, and to decide who will be the best of the best.
With the decision to sponsor the Digital Agency, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the importance of next-generation digital human resource development has been recognized by government agencies, and the conference has attracted attention as an advanced event in which industry, government, and academia work together to strengthen Japan's digital competitiveness.

Background of the Conference

Many countries around the world are now actively promoting education about AI and ICT for high school students. These technologies have become an integral part of the future of industry, innovative research, and everyday life. In the field of AI in particular, machine learning, data analysis, and automated decision making have become important skills for future careers.

On the other hand, it is sometimes pointed out that Japan lags behind other countries in this area. Reasons for this lag include a lack of flexibility in existing curricula and educational systems, slow response to technological innovation, and a lack of expertise among educators. The limited provision of practical AI and ICT learning opportunities for students is also considered a challenge for the Japanese education system.

Against this backdrop, events such as the National High School AI Athlete Championships are gaining importance, expectation and attention.
The competition aims to help Japanese high school students catch up to the international level by providing them with opportunities to compete in AI and ICT knowledge and skills and to develop teamwork. It is also expected to spark students' interest and ability in these technologies and help lay the foundation for their future success at the forefront of industries in the ultra-high information society.

Features of the e-learning system "learningBOX

learningBOX" is a cloud-based e-learning system that focuses on price and ease of use. With the growing demand for IBT and CBT examinations, we have expanded the functions of the system to include "face recognition" and "browser monitoring" in June 2024, with the aim of realizing fair exam operations while preventing cheating, such as "spoofing" and "cheating". In June 2024, we implemented functional enhancements such as "face recognition" and "browser monitoring.

Anti-Fraud Features

  • Identity authentication by AI
Examinee's profile picture will be registered as user information, and AI recognizes the captured photo at the beginning of the exam. If facial recognition fails, the system can prevent the exam from starting, thereby preventing impersonating themselves.

  • Browser monitoring" and "taking pictures during the exam" to prevent cheating
A warning is displayed if another tab is opened during the exam or if the full screen display is dismissed. If the warning is displayed more than a certain number of times or if the exam is not resumed within a specified time, the exam can be forced to end. It is also possible to take pictures of examinees during the exam (up to 30 pictures per exam). Filming can be done randomly or at the timing indicated by the warning in the browser monitoring.

Reasons for selecting the e-learning system "learningBOX

Comment from Yusuke Muto, Chairman, Singularity Battle Quest Executive Committee

We have been using the e-learning system "learningBOX" since the 0th conference six years ago. Its ease of use, cost-effectiveness of using a highly functional service at a low price, and high security have contributed greatly to the operation of the convention. In particular, we are always grateful for the generous support we receive.
Cheating" and "spoofing" are eternal problems for organizers when conducting CBTs. Currently, as the test is conducted remotely online, there is no effective way to prevent cheating beyond a warning from the organizer that "cheating will result in disqualification," and the organizer has to rely on the good nature of the participants. For this reason, we have high expectations for the enhancement of the anti-fraud function in the future. We believe that this will further improve the reliability and fairness of the competition.
We are planning a world competition in conjunction with next year's Osaka/Kansai Expo, and would like to take advantage of learningBOX's multilingual support to provide high school students around the world with opportunities to discover and develop AI/ICT talent.
